Who is Vivian?
Vivian Caits is the alter-ego of Washington, DC, artist, Valerie Brown who fell in love with steel and charcoal while studying Studio Art at the University of Maryland before online was everything. This once removed persona embraces playful experimentation and enjoys longtime collaborations with interior designers and architects across the globe.
Can you tell me more about your prints? What exactly is a ‘Perspective’?
I do not offer unmodified or straight up reproduction prints of my original paintings or drawings. I have always been fascinated with the selective nature of conversation and story telling. What we choose to share in conversations with others and what we hold back intrigues me. The fact that we edit and tailor our words to suit the situation and audience is even more apparent in today’s world of Facebook, Instagram and blogs.
My Perspectives are the visual equivalent to these reunion dinner chats, phone calls with long lost family, polished blog posts and refined 140 character tweets. They are bits and slices of my original paintings that have been exaggerated, highlighted, minimized, turned on end, and given a bit more or toned down in color.
The process is deliberately selective. Original artwork images are first manipulated digitally and then often printed and reworked by hand, scanned again and then shared – a more methodical and mindful version of the process we use in everyday interaction.
You read all that? The short answer is Perspectives are a purposely specific and different view of my original paintings expressed via prints on paper and canvas.
I need something specific (Size, Colors, etc.) Can you help?
I will certainly try. I am pressing ‘pause’ on new painting commission orders until I catch up but in the meantime am happy to customize a perspective. Send a message outlining your needs and we can discuss options and ideas.
How often do you release new artwork?
I aim for new collections to be released in June and October. First look photos, information and purchase options for these new works are shared one month earlier in my newsletter. Add your name to the list to get early access. Pieces that are not snagged in that first month can then be found here on the Vivian Caits site.
How Are your Prints Created?
In order to maintain the quality of my work from start to finish, I create my prints in house. Come visit the studio and you’ll find a 60" beast of a printer that allows me to control the quality of all materials used, materials produced, and keep the turnaround timeline short.
How quickly can I get my new painting or print?
Unframed prints are shipped rolled within 3 business days of purchase. If you opt to have me coordinate stretching/matting/framing through local-to-me Framebridge, processing time is 2-3 weeks. If you require expedited shipping, please message me before ordering to discuss options.
How do you feel about studio visits?
I dig them. Message me to arrange an appointment or join my newsletter for open studio events. People, art and food? These are a few of my favorite things!
How do you ship your work in the US?
I ship paintings and art prints via both USPS Priority and FedEx Ground depending on the size and weight of the item. A signature may be required for delivery. Great care is placed on packaging artwork for safe transport.
Do you ship internationally?
With pleasure! However each country has its own rules - sometimes in the form of size, price, or weight restrictions. Message me for more information on shipping the art you are considering to your specific location. Artwork will most often be sent via First Class International. Buyers are responsible for all tax/broker/customs/duty fees.
Refunds & Exchanges
All orders may be canceled with a full refund before an item has shipped. If the item has been shipped, you have moved into return territory.
I want you to love your new artwork and thus post confidently that returns are accepted under the following terms:
New Art Owner is to notify me of the intention to return within 3 days of receiving the parcel.
New Art Owner must provide a registered tracking number and ship item(s) back within 7 days of the initial delivery.
New Art Owner is responsible for shipping fees.
Once I have received the item in its *original condition* your purchase cost, minus the original shipping fee, will be refunded via the original method of payment.
Two More Things
While this artwork may go to your home, shop, or other business where it can provide generations of viewing pleasure, the rights to the images themselves are reserved and maintained by Vivian Caits. That is the long way of saying you may not reproduce or resell Vivian Caits creations without written consent.
I take extreme measures to accurately represent colors. That said, display can vary by computer monitor and by, well, person. As that wise guy, Ben Franklin said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." If you have questions regarding colors, size, etc., please ask before placing your order.
